So far, 2017 has been a great year for smartphone buyers, seeing the arrival of stellar handsets such as the LG G6, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus – three phones that gave the market a much-needed boost with a number of never before seen technologies. But the best may still be to come: Apple is yet to join the fray with its latest batch of iPhones, and Google is expected to release a follow-up to its stellar Pixel before the year’s end. 1 / 9 Our Score: 8 OnePlus 3T Read full OnePlus 3T review Key Features 5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED screen Snapdragon 821 processor and 6GB RAM 64 and 128GB versions, 3,400mAh Review Price: £399 The OnePlus 3T can be considered an evolution of the OnePlus 3 rather than a true follow-up, but considering how much we loved the OnePlus 3, this is no bad thing. The new OnePlus 3T rectifies the few shortcomings of its predecessor, packing in a 13% larger 3,400mAh battery as well as offering a new larger 128GB capacity option.
Considering there’s no microSD expansion, this is a good thing if you need the space. Other improvements have happened internally, including a new Snapdragon 821 processor, just like in Google’s Pixel range of phones. The front-facing selfie camera has also been bumped up to 16-megapixels, too. For the money, the OnePlus 3T is the best Android experience you’re going to find. 2 / 9 Our Score: 8 iPhone SE Read full iPhone SE review Key features: 4-inch display 12 megapixel, rear camera TouchID and Apple Pay A9 CPU and 2GB RAM, 16 or 32GB internal storage Review Price: £359 If you want a smaller phone, the iPhone SE is the perfect choice.
It packs most of the goodies from the iPhone 6S, but in a shell that can be used easily in one hand. The same 12MP camera sits on the back, while the same A9 CPU and 2GB RAM power the device. This makes it superfast and a pleasure to use. Touch ID and Apple Pay are here too, as is the fetching Rose Gold colour scheme. 3D Touch, though, doesn't make the cut. The smaller display can't match the competition for resolution, but it's still sharp, colourful and pixels are tough to spot. We do wish the 16GB internal storage option wasn't here, but at least there's the 64GB version. 3 / 9 Our Score: 8 LG G6 Read full LG G6 review Key Features 7-inch quad-HD LCD screen Snapdragon 821 processor and 4GB RAM 32GB, 3,300mAh Review Price: £649 LG's G6 is a great flagship, even though it doesn't quite have the punch of the Samsung Galaxy S8. The 18:9 display will catch your eye first, and it is truly a stunning quad-HD panel. It's bright, colourful and oh so sharp. This is a fast phone too, even though its spec-sheet is a bit 2016. There's a Snapdragon 821 CPU, 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage, and of course a microSD slot too. The 3,300 mAh battery will get you through the day, though not much more, and the dual-lens camera is great in varying conditions. If you loved the LG G5, then this is the handset for you. 4 / 9 Our Score: 9 Moto G5 2017 Read full Moto G5 2017 review Key features: 5-inch 1080p display 13-megapixel camera microSD card slot Android 7.0 Review Price: £169 The latest Moto G is a near-perfect budget-friendly smartphone, that continues an impressive run of form from Motorola. The handset fixes many of the flaws of Motorola's Moto G4, droping the screen size from 5.5-inches to 5-inches, thus making it signfincantly more comfortable to hold. The design has also seen some changes with an aluminium back being one of the most notable. The fingerprint scanner has also been improved compared to the Moto G4's ugly scanner. As before, there's 16GB of storage as standard with a microSD slot if you find that's not enough space. The removable battery also makes a return. The camera remains 13-megapixels and is still surprisingly good for the money. The underlying operating system has been updated to Android 7.0 Nougat, making everything feel fresh and up to date. Simply put, this is one of the best phones you can get for under £200. 5 / 9 Our Score: 9 HTC 10 Read full HTC 10 review Key features 2-inch quad-HD display Snapdragon 820 CPU, 4GB RAM microSD slot, 32GB internal storage, BoomSound audio Review Price: £639 With the HTC 10, the Taiwanese company is well and truly back. After the disappointing One M9 and One A9, the HTC 10 is a stunning phone that not only looks fantastic with a bold design, but it also performs like a champion. The Snapdragon 820 CPU and 4GB takes care of all the intensive tasks, while the quad-HD 5.2-inch display is crisp, sharp and super bright. HTC has done a great job at ensuring Android isn't ruined by bloatware by removing a load of duplicate apps. It has some nifty new addition too, like a clever way of locking out access to certain apps. While HTC claims you'll get multiples days of battery life we only managed one, but it did easily make it from morning until bedtime. One of the biggest issues with the One M9 was its poor camera, and it has mostly been sorted here. The 12MP UltraPixel sensor takes great and very detailed photos, while the selfie shooter is the best on the market. It does sometimes overexpose shots, but it's still a good camera. 6 / 9 Our Score: 9 Google Pixel XL Read full Google Pixel XL review Key features 5-inch quad-HD display Snapdragon 821, 4GB RAM Google Assistant Review Price: £639 Google has ditched the Nexus brand, and it's all about Pixel now. It's a flagship phone, with a price to match, but is it any good? In a word, yes. It's up there with the Samsung Galaxy S7 as the best Android phone, thanks to a stunning 12-megapixel camera and crisp 5.5-inch quad-HD display. There's a fast Snapdragon 821 CPU keeping things ticking over, 4GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage plus Google's new Assistant. This is an AI, like Siri, that searches the web for handy information. We wish it was water-resistant, and the design is a tad boring, but really it's a great phone. 7 / 9 Our Score: 9 iPhone 7 Plus Read full iPhone 7 Plus review Key features 5-inch full-HD display A10 Fusion, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage IP68 for water resistance Taptic engine 12MP camera Review Price: £719 The iPhone 7 was a missed opportunity, but the larger 7 Plus is a much better pick. Aside from its larger, sharper 1080p display it has a new dual-camera on the back that offers real optical zoom in a phone. This is a great phone camera that's on par with the Galaxy S7, but not quite as good as the Google Pixel. Apple's iOS 10 is sleek, and we're huge fans of the improved taptic engine that, but it's still a big phone with a screen-size that's not as larger as smaller Android rivals. The Apple A10 Fusion CPU is a champ, while the 3GB RAM is more than enough. The iPhone 7 Plus is a great phone. But you'll need deep pockets. 8 / 9 Our Score: 9 Huawei P10 Plus Read full Huawei P10 Plus review Key features 5-inch quad-HD display Kirin 960, 6GB RAM, 128GB internal storage Leica camera Review Price: £569 The P10 Plus is Huawei's best phone yet, and one of the finest Android phones in early 2017. Its Leica engineered dual cameras are good, while the 5.5-inch display is crisp and colourful. There's a plentiful 3,750mAh battery that manages to make it through the day and it can be juiced up via the very fast Supercharger in little over an hour. 9 / 9 Our Score: 10 Samsung Galaxy S8 Read full Samsung Galaxy S8 review Key Features 8-inch, AMOLED, quad-HD Infinity Display Samsung Exynos 8895 CPU and 4GB of RAM 64GB, 3,000mAh Review Price: £689 The Galaxy S8 is the pinnacle of smartphone designs. Featuring a beautiful 5.8-inch, AMOLED, quad-HD Infinity Display that wraps around the phone’s sides, the Galaxy S8 is outright gorgeous and is currently the phone to beat in 2017. The display ticks all the right boxes in terms of hardware, too. As well as being super-sharp, the screen is even HDR-ready. While this might not mean much right now, in the future it will enable you to watch high dynamic range content from Amazon and Netflix – a huge draw for those who like to watch shows or movies on their phone. Powered by a super-speedy Samsung Exynos 8895 CPU and 4GB of RAM, the Galaxy S8 is one of the fastest phones on the market, breezing through all manner of tasks from web browsing to intensive 3D gaming. The rear camera is also the best we’ve encountered on a smartphone. Featuring a 12-megapixel, f/1.7 aperture and Dual Pixel sensor, the unit here is great for chronicling everything from holiday snaps in the sun to fun nights out in dimly lit bars and clubs. Although we’re not convinced that the phone’s Bixby personal assistant offers any real advantage over Google’s own Assistant, the appearance of Android Nougat is another welcome addition that makes the S8 a perfect all-rounder. The only downside is that, with pricing starting at £689, the Galaxy S8 is expensive. sam June 4, 2013, 7:18 pm Samsung has a major flaw that they are trying to cover up. Their screens tend to develop a crack for no apparent reason rendering the phone useless. Has happened to me twice and a little search on the internet reveals it to be a problem with their entire galaxy line. Benjamin Taylor June 5, 2013, 2:41 pm S3 at 3rd and S4 at 5th, somebody needs to lay off whiskey pmsl Oshin Barua June 6, 2013, 12:35 pm We can expect that the lava mobile will come in this category very soon because it has launched very good smarts phone with latest features. Emp Martinez July 11, 2013, 6:12 am I think Samsung galaxy s4 should be at number, Samsung mobile is best for me when it comes its features. Mark is right you must include Sony Xperia z. Bella July 16, 2013, 1:47 pm Has anyone had problems with their Sumgung S4 camera, mine freezes and so does my galary. Parikshit Srivastava July 30, 2013, 7:21 am I feel Samsung phones are over rated. Sony Xperia Z should be in top 3. top mobile phones August 2, 2013, 3:24 am good info Maish August 17, 2013, 9:46 am The bottom line is how many units of a model a company sell. Big HTC don't sell and that's why the company is struggling. bad ass August 27, 2013, 11:49 pm yo yo yo this is bad ass's crue coming from me merking you Ty Hub September 24, 2013, 4:29 am Lousy article! Not including Blackberry Z10 is not fair. The best messaging and keyboard for texting or what ever. If you use one, you will buy one! Guaranteed!!! samsung! October 9, 2013, 5:37 am wat about the Note 3????its way better than the iphones and of course much better than the s4!!! mothergoose85 October 14, 2013, 10:28 am This seems suspiciously like a traffic baiting article - I totally understand the needs for page views to boost revenue and I like the idea of this article buuuuuut it'd have been more interesting if this was a comparison based review rather than "look at this, read our existing reviews" NotOverlyConvinced October 14, 2013, 1:10 pm I wonder if the MotoX and the Lumia 1020 were considered... I have a nexus 4, but i have to admit that i really like Nokia. Bit sad we never got to see a Nokidroid. MotoX i think goes another way entirely, and seems that Motorola are realizing that software is as important (if not more so) than specs on higher end phones. uffe October 16, 2013, 9:08 am How come Trustedreviews always goes to great lengths to exclude really interesting new technology in smartphones? Last year it was nokia 808 pureview and this year it is Lumia 1020. Evan October 16, 2013, 9:02 pm The Nokia 808 Pureview was an innovative camera but we had two sent to us and both stopped working during testing so we couldn't actually review it, then it wasn't actually available anywhere. The Nokia 1020 is interesting and has its strengths however it's just not quite on par with the others in this list. Read our full review http://www.trustedreviews. c... Evan October 17, 2013, 12:14 pm You're right this list does not have a "winner" it's just the best phones we've reviewed in the last 12 months. Disagree with you re the HTC One though, it's still one of the best phones out there. Evan October 18, 2013, 11:12 am Can you send us a picture when you do? Sounds awesome! Peter Schmid October 25, 2013, 7:19 pm Hello Sam, same to me, my S4 had a hairline crack inside the screen two weeksafter purchasing and Samsung does not accept it as warranty case. I always had the phone in a cover, never sat on it and have the feeling to be left out in the rain because the phone is now completely useless because the display has gone as well. I suspect that the deficiency originated from a overheating of the battery. Ryan October 26, 2013, 10:29 pm Samsung phones are completely overrated and cheaply made. HTC, Sony, LG, Nokia and Apple over a Samsung any day. junior October 26, 2013, 11:33 pm I respect everyones pinion on various phones but to me the Sony Xperia Z is awesome best music player sound quality Just need a Bluetooth speaker you will notice how awesome it is in sound quality battery life is number one you have to see to beleive Ram October 30, 2013, 8:01 am iPhone 5C does not really deserve to be in the list at all...How does it fit here...It is going to be scrapped very soon.... Ben November 4, 2013, 1:35 am You do not sound truthful Ryan, I maintain that Samsung is still best thing to happen to the smartphone business world. I own a Sony and an HTC, I rate Samsung ahead of both. The galaxy note 3 is the best phone on earth at the moment. Evan November 5, 2013, 3:30 pm We've restructured these to be ordered by grade now. Any news on the aluminium SGN3? andyvan November 6, 2013, 9:05 am We'v removed it in the most recent update. It's a very good phone, but you're right to say it's not in top 10 right now. Yunik November 7, 2013, 4:29 pm IPhone the best
